Gel print

The Copy Office company since 2005 has in its offer devices based on gel print technologies. Our experience shows that a printer and gel plotter is a printer with a similar design and operation as an inkjet printer, but uses a gel-based dye. The gel has a completely different consistency and the possibility of using in everyday use, advertising or anywhere where documents are exposed to moisture. Printers and gel plotters were introduced to the market by Ricoh in 2005 under the name Gel Sprinter, which is the only company that sells and promotes gel printers.

In our assessment, the advantages of using the gel compared to the usual ink are:

faster drying – printing is not susceptible to smudging even during printing
faster printing – thanks to consistency, the entire production process of the printout has been accelerated
better control over droplet size – we are able to provide higher print resolution
limited soaking in paper – no wicking of the ink, resulting in quick and trouble-free two-sided printing
greater resistance to light – colors are susceptible to fading
greater resistance to water – the print will not smudge under the influence of water
Gel consumption is less than ink – cheaper to use
The confirmed advantages are the fact that the gel dries very quickly, so that the prints do not smudge even after printing and are definitely more resistant to water. Is a gel print better than an inkjet print? The user’s decision to what the final product is to be used is of great importance here. If the end result is not important and I have to be an internal document in which quality does not matter, standard ink will be enough. Inkjet and gel printers have identical dimensions and functionality. Large differences appear only in large devices such as plotters to the A0 + format. Here, the quality is of great importance, and the new series of devices is already intended for commercial printouts, as well as for regular GIS printing, it is the multifunctionality that is the biggest advantage of the gel – having one device instead of two. The printout and the service itself are no different, the devil is in the details, from the speed of printing, penetration into the substrate and ending with greater efficiency from the packaging of the ink / gel.
